The CEAR Hub is continuing a strong partnership with educators in Effingham County to bring unique STEAM programs to middle and high school students. A focal point of this collaboration has been the facilitation of hands-on sensor activities at the Honey Ridge Agricenter in Guyton, GA. In September, high school students from Effingham College & Career Academy visited the center and learned how to program and use portable temperature monitors to measure and study temperature variations across different settings in the facility. In
October, middle school students from South Effingham Middle School learned about how to use sensors to detect dangerous gas levels as part of an extended unit on Methane gas production and use. This work is continuing with the development of some testing sensors that are now deployed in the schoo'ls greenhouse for them to use on an ongoing basis. Through each of these programs, students are learning about the sensor technologies as well as the important science applications for the data they gather.
