The Pin Point Betterment Association Community Conducts K-12 Engagement

The Pin Point Betterment Association in collaboration with CEAR Hub Education Team implemented their first K-12 programming on November 2, 2024. The session was for students ages 7-17 to educate students on the preservation of the historic Pin Point community.

Many of the students who attended were descendants of the Gullah Geechee community. Through intergenerational learning with community leaders and elders, they were introduced to ways to help protect and evolve their heritage through innovation and tradition. A tour of the Pin Point Museum allowed students to witness the history and culture of the community. Students were instructed by the descents of the Pin Point community and enjoyed STEM/STEAM incorporated activities, which allowed students to think of innovative ways to help preserve the community. Educators from Georgia Tech’s Savannah Campus and Savannah State University provided assistance with planning and implementation.

This event will be part of an ongoing series of activities to engage youth in strengthening the resilience of Pin Point to environmental and social threats. The next Pin Point K-12 session is scheduled to take place in January 2025.
